Huckleberries Child Care Centres’ program is reflective of the children that attend and their needs and interests.
We believe that children learn through play and experiences within our community.
We offer the children the opportunity to construct knowledge through daily experiences and encounters with teachers, peers, events, and objects in the world. This is how the children develop theories, negotiate learning and merge thoughts together; thereby building knowledge and understanding.
The centre promotes active living, a healthy lifestyle and care and respect of our environment by spending a significant amount of time outside. In todays fast paced society we believe the need for free, unstructured play in nature is an essential ingredient for a well rounded day. We enjoy watching natures cycles and use nature and our natural environment as inspiration for learning, art, and play.
Free and unstructured play in the outdoors boosts problem-solving skills, focus and self-discipline. Socially, it improves cooperation, flexibility, and self-awareness. Emotional benefits include reduced aggression and increased happiness. “Children will be smarter, better able to get along with others, healthier and happier when they have regular opportunities for free and unstructured play in the out-of-doors,” concluded one authoritative study published by the American Medical Association in 2005.
All activities offered are age appropriate and adapted to the different abilities of the children. Some of the activities include; art, building/construction, sensory play, science, reading, dramatic play, music and movement, manipulative puzzles, pegboards threading etc, gross motor activities – running, climbing, jumping, balancing etc
Field trips are offered in the program in order for the children to learn about their community and to construct knowledge to build upon their activities at the centre.
Centre staff are trained to be able to offer your child a program that will give your child the skills needed to be successful in the school setting.
